Was ever inspired to see this Picasso exhibit in Rome last week juxtaposed alongside classicists Bernini, Caravaggio and Raphael at the Borghese Villa. As I learned Picasso visited Rome (and the Borghese villa) in 1917 and was deeply inspired by the works (along with his voluptuous ballerina, Marie Therese- her figure seen here). Around the time, surrealist artists were abandoning the usual characteristics and narratives of painting and exploring more abstract sculpture and conceptuality (cubism— readymade). Picasso being the genius that he was created art objects/ modern sculptures using ancestral techniques and materials making a naturalistic feel to a modern finish. No beginning and no end- just similar techniques. Ancestral techniques and materials with naturalistic styles. Leaving this idea / quote of his to ponder: “To me there is no past or future in art. If a work of art cannot live always in the present it must not be considered at all. I do believe that plants have their own energy and personality, like people do. And when they are not misused, and sought after with intention, gratitude, and respect for harvesting of their traditional ways- they actually WANT to share their healing medicine gifts with us. 💛Almost everything in nature lives in symbiosis (there are always exceptions). Persephone And Flower Narcissus Hades fell in love with Persephone and decided to kidnap her. The myth says that in one of the rare times he left the Underworld, he traveled above ground to pursue her, while she was gathering flowers in a field. As Persephone engaged in play amongst fertile crops of Gaia- her attention fell upon the potently fragrant valley nearby, and she couldn’t take her eyes of the yellow flower narcissus. She called upon her playmates to accompany her, but they couldn’t possibly go with her as leaving the side of their water bodies would result in their death. The flower Narcissus was planted there by Gaia, who was following the orders of Zeus, Hades’ brother. The goal was to enchant Persephone and attract her, away from her guides. So, Persephone danced her way to the garden alone and tried to pluck the narcissus from the bosom of Gaia. It drained her energies as the narcissus only came out after a lot of pulling. But suddenly, to her utter fright, she saw the tiny hole from which she had drawn out the flower shaft, began to rapid grow in size until it started to resemble a mighty enormous chasm. Persephone slipped beneath the Earth and Hades stole her to the Underworld where he made her his wife. Finally after 33 years on this planet I’ve begun to hear the little voice of knowing inside. It usually speaks in the form of emotions. Good feelings, uncomfortable feelings, warnings, and sharp reactions. For instance, it may be sunny with clouds yet I’ll get the urge to bring my umbrella. I used to respond to myself with, “it’s sunny you don’t need that.” Now I grab it and usually end up using it in a surprise rain shower. Before I was able to recognize these intuitive messages I simply rationalized them away. I learned that when you get to know yourself, you learn how use this ability to realize your potentials. Today is a long celebrated time of year, where you can practice listening to yourself. The thinnest of the veil, Samhain. Close your eyes and ask yourself a question.
